Environmental Practice and Sustainability
By caring about the environment we will win respect for our working practices.
We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and to minimising the impact of our actions on the environment. We have operated under a joint ISO 19001/14001 Quality/Environmental management system since 2007.
Procedures have been adopted that provide the framework for setting and reviewing environmental objectives and targets, based on a systematic and rigorous process of evaluation in both normal and abnormal/emergency conditions.
Our experiences have enabled us to advise and assist many of our clients to achieve similar results and qualifications.
Procurement
We rigorously adhere to our sustainable purchasing policy when selecting suppliers, cleaning materials and products etc. We buy local wherever possible and we use suppliers with similar qualifications to our own.
An example of this approach is our printing system which is done on a hot wax printer chosen as it prints double sided, requires no cartridges, refills require minimal packaging and is virtually waste free. It was also supplied by a local company.
Transport
All of our vehicles are diesel fuelled, leased from a Sussex supplier on a 4 year, full service and repair basis ensuring optimal efficiency and compliance with Euro 5 emission standards.
We operate solely in Sussex enabling us to maximise our service and delivery miles per litre ratios. Further incentives to save fuel are via use of Fuel Genie cards for all our vehicles. These are accepted at Morrisons and Tesco fuel courts encouraging competitive purchasing. All Tesco reward points collected by our fleet are awarded to our most fuel efficient driver every quarter. 'Every little helps'.
Cleaning Materials
In our smaller contracts up to 95% of the products we use are from the Cleenol Envirological range. These cleaning solutions are formulated from plant extracts such as citric acids and bioethanol derived from fermented sugar. They are renewable, biodegradable and contain no phosphates.
In our larger buildings we use Cleenol's Evolution concentrate dispensing system. This allows concentrated chemicals to be diluted at point of use. Accurate dispensing prevents overdosing and chemical wastage. Concentrated products reduce packaging, storage and transport.
All paper products used come from recycled or sustainable sources and are fully acredited by organisations such as ISO, FSC or CHSA.
Waste & Recycling
Whilst sustainable procurement helps us to reduce the amount of waste we produce it cannot eliminate it completely. We therefore recycle as much of our waste as possible, cardboard, paper, plastics, metals (even our tea bags are composted)!
We have helped our clients achieve similar results by advising them of tried and tested practices and assisting them to reduce costs by sorting their waste at source.
We will be pleased to advise on any waste reduction and recycling projects.
Energy & Water
Our head office is powered by electricity and we are commited to reducing our usage. We have a meter in reception indicating our use of energy at all times. All of our lights (where possible) are low energy types. All electrical appliances were chosen for their category 'A' energy efficiency ratings and our heaters and appliances operate on timers ensuring only security lighting is used at weekends.
We installed a 4KW PV solar panel system on the roof of our head office in December 2011. The system can be monitored online in real time and we are looking forward to reducing our energy consumption further as a result.
Our cleaning equipment and work practices also reflect the value of water as an increasingly precious resource.
